Although cubic metres are used in the calculation, the final GT value has no physical unit. It should therefore be written as, for example, "50,000 GT," not "50,000 gross tonnes".

Gross Tonnage vs Net Tonnage

Gross Tonnage measures the ship's total enclosed size, whereas Net Tonnage (NT) represents its useful commercial capacity.
